Electra de Carbayín, S.A. is a company dedicated to electricity distribution in the central zone of the Principality of Asturias (Spain).

Electra de Carbayín is also the parent company of a group involved in the production of renewable electricity and its commercialisation.
The Electra de Carbayín Group actively participates in the main organizations related to the electricity industry:
|
We are a member of ASEME (Asociación de Empresas Eléctricas), an entity based in Barcelona that represents independent distributors of electricity in Spain. |
|
|
We are also a member of GEODE (Groupement Européen des Entreprises et Organismes de Distribution d’Energie), an association which, from its headquarters in Brussels, represents the interests of energy distribution companies throughout the European Union, and encourages sectorial co-operation. |

|
In the field of electricity generation, we belong to APPA (Asociación de Productores de Energías Renovables), the only organization that includes generators of mini-hydraulic, eolian and photovoltaic electricity. |
In 1923, a time of rapid growth in the mining industry in central Asturias, a businessman by the name of Perfecto Díaz y Díaz set up an electricity supply concern. What started out as a small distributor that supplied current to scarcely a hundred inhabitants in the Carbayín Alto area, was transformed, in little more than ten years, into a business that supplied fifty villages in the municipal districts of Siero and Bimenes.
By the 1960s, once the difficult post Civil War period had been consigned to memory, the major electrification projects in the area had already been carried out. From then on, there was a large rise in electricity consumption and investment was channelled into the improvement of electrical infrastructure. In 1965, the company also adopted its present name: Electra de Carbayín. During the 1970s, the network of electrical circuits was completed in a circular fashion. Finally, during the final two decades of the 20th century, several projects included in the Rural Electrification Plans were embarked upon which facilitated the renewal and improvement of medium and low tension lines.

In 1998 Electra de Carbayín proudly celebrated its 75th anniversary. The fact that we have unfailingly tended the needs of our customers throughout this period, while at the same time safeguarding our independence, is a tribute both to our great ability to adapt and to our capacity to get the job done.
To coincide with this
auspicious occasion, Electra de Carbayín published a review of the
company’s history, a summary (in Spanish) of which can be downloaded
